2026 CLI EBP Workshops Highlights
National Evidence-Based Practices partners returned to New Mexico at the 2026 CLI! There were two EBP-focused workshops at the conference. Strengthening Families Through Collaboration: Expanding Functional Family Therapy Across New Mexico, presented by Dr. Thomas Sexton (FFT model developer and COI Training Partner) and Pierce Ferriegel (The Community Lighthouse; EBP Initiative Participant and FFT Implementer), highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the implementation and adaptation of Functional Family Therapy (FFT) across New Mexico. Together, they shared insights on the effectiveness of FFT for a wide range of families and emphasized their commitment to continuously adapting the model to meet the unique needs of the communities they serve, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Further, they emphasized the need to maintain the model’s cultural responsiveness and relevance to both therapists and the families they serve. All together, this workshop saw 52 participants!
Likewise, The Importance of Collaboration and Partnerships in Supporting Multisystemic Therapy Success for Teens, presented by Chris Mason (Rocky Mountain MST Network and COI Training Partner), Deidre Gordon (Faith Works Counseling; MST Program Director); Alvin Phan, LCSW (DulceSalado; Supervisor); Antonio Maestas (DulceSalado; Therapist); and Stacey Scanlon (Southwest Family Guidance Center; Clinical Director), focused on how collaboration between service systems indirectly impacts youth behavioral outcomes. Further, the workshop discussed approaches for improving outcomes for youth engaged in anti-social behaviors and substance use, as well as using a real-life case example to help participants better understand the MST process. Overall, the workshop had 55 participants!
