Prerequisites:

• Registrants must complete TF-CBT Web 2.0, at participant’s expense, and provide COI with a copy of the CEU certificate. The course must have been taken within the last two years.*

• Must have Master level education or higher and professional MH License in New Mexico.
• Must be a NM Medicaid Enrolled Provider or meet criteria to do so.
• All participants may be registered for only one COI EBP Training course at a time.

Expectations:

• Required to attend all three days of virtual training.
• Required to complete a minimum of 9 (out of 14) hours of consultation as scheduled with trainer.
• Upon completion of this training, participants agree to continue to practice the TF-CBT Model and work toward TF-CBT Therapist Certification.
• Upon achieving certification, participants agree to submit the NM EBP Provider Application through COI-NMSU and enroll with NM Medicaid to bill at the TF-CBT specialty rate.
• Provide EMDR to the New Mexico Medicaid Population.

• Aim to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively implement TF-CBT with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.
• Enhance participants' understanding of the impacts of trauma and identify trauma symptoms utilizing appropriate assessment tools for children and their caregivers.
• Through didactics and interactive activities, this training will teach all components of TF-CBT implementation with a focus on: teaching coping mechanisms, affective management skills, with experiential learning in facilitating trauma narrative and cognitive processing.
• Participants will acquire specialized knowledge in the empirical rationale for enhancing caregiver engagement in the TF-CBT therapeutic process and will engage in activities to best support in teaching parenting skills to support children's healing and coping.
• Participants will be equipped with skills to support their long-term maintenance of TF-CBT skill implementation, with enhanced focus on skills for maintaining fidelity to an evidence-based therapeutic model.

Didactic classroom training on dates listed in registration form AND active participation in a series of 14 one-hour consultation calls with the trainer twice monthly. All parts of this training are completed virtually. Therapists are required to have at least one active TF-CBT case to staff during consultation. CEU Information:
Upon completion of the training and consultation hours, participants will earn 12 Social Work CEUs (accepted by NM Social Work Board and NM Counseling & Therapy Board).

Dr. Susan Schmidt is a licensed counseling psychologist, Chief Psychologist for the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs, and former faculty member through the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences – Center on Child Abuse and Neglect. Dr. Schmidt has served since 2007 as a national trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She and OUHSC professor, Dr. Dolores Subia Bigfoot, collaborated in the development of “Honoring Children – Mending the Circle”, an advanced application of the TF-CBT treatment model for American Indian and Alaska Native youth and families. During her OUHSC tenure, Dr. Schmidt launched and directed Oklahoma TF-CBT, which provides clinical care and professional training in child trauma assessment and TF-CBT treatment. Additionally, she has been integrally involved in the design and dissemination of the Problematic Sexual Behavior – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Treatment Program for Adolescents. Dr. Schmidt is a national trainer in the evidence-supported model of professional well-being, Components for Enhancing Career Experience and Reducing Traumatization (CE-CERT), authored by Dr. Brian Miller.

Amanda Mitten, LPC is the Director of Oklahoma TF-CBT Training & Clinical Co-Director at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Center on Child Abuse and Neglect. Ms. Mitten is a certified therapist and consultant in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She is a certified therapist and Within Agency Trainer in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and certified in Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT). Ms. Mitten is also a national trainer in a skills-based model for managing secondary traumatic stress, Components for Enhancing Clinician Experience and Reducing Trauma (CE-CERT). Ms. Mitten is a lead trainer in the University of Oklahoma Problematic Sexual Behavior – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy™ (PSB-CBT™) model. Ms. Mitten also collaborated with national TF-CBT trainers to develop an advanced training in TF-CBT that includes enhancements for work with children with problematic sexual behavior.
