Training Description

This FREE one-hour virtual preparedness session is designed to provide information and orientation to the training process for Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for clinical leadership and providers.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based, trauma focused treatment for children and teens between the ages of 3 and 17. TF-CBT is a skills-based treatment model that decreases PTSD and depressive symptoms in children and teens and improves the relationship between children and their caregivers. CEUs will not be distributed for attending a preparedness session but it is highly recommended you attend prior to submitting an application for training.

This training is for New Mexico Behavioral Health Clinical Leadership and Clinicians interested in implementing TF-CBT in their practice.

Trainer Bios:

Amanda Mitten, LPC is the Director of Oklahoma TF-CBT Training & Clinical Co-Director at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Center on Child Abuse and Neglect. Ms. Mitten is a certified therapist and consultant in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She is a certified therapist and Within Agency Trainer in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and certified in Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT). Ms. Mitten is also a national trainer in a skills-based model for managing secondary traumatic stress, Components for Enhancing Clinician Experience and Reducing Trauma (CE-CERT). Ms. Mitten is a lead trainer in the University of Oklahoma Problematic Sexual Behavior – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy™ (PSB-CBT™) model. Ms. Mitten also collaborated with national TF-CBT trainers to develop an advanced training in TF-CBT that includes enhancements for work with children with problematic sexual behavior.

Dr. Susan Schmidt is a licensed counseling psychologist, Chief Psychologist for the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs, and former faculty member through the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences - Center on Child Abuse and Neglect. Dr. Schmidt has served since 2007 as a national trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She and OUHSC professor, Dr. Dolores Subia Bigfoot, collaborated in the development of “Honoring Children – Mending the Circle”, an advanced application of the TF-CBT treatment model for American Indian and Alaska Native youth and families. During her OUHSC tenure, Dr. Schmidt launched and directed Oklahoma TF-CBT, which provides clinical care and professional training in child trauma assessment and TF-CBT treatment. Additionally, she has been integrally involved in the design and dissemination of the Problematic Sexual Behavior – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Treatment Program for Adolescents. Dr. Schmidt is a national trainer in the evidence-supported model of professional well-being, Components for Enhancing Career Experience and Reducing Traumatization (CE-CERT), authored by Dr. Brian Miller.
